Feb. 3 Tom Dennehy. Witty, world-traveling Danville-based singer-songwriter Tom Dennehy has created agood deal of memorable and unique music in his six previous appearances on Homegrown Music. Once again, after a long trip abroad (this time to Spain), Dennehy was inspired to create a new collection of his one-of-a-kind songs, many accompanied by ukulele.

Feb. 10 A Homegrown Music Request Segment. A couple of times a year, Homegrown Music founder and producer George Graham sets aside a program for listeners to request their favorites from among the more than 500 groups and artists the series has presented in its more than 26 uninterrupted years on the air. Listeners may phone 570-655-2808 before the program begins to place requests for this 90-minute special. Note: Start time: 8:30 PM.

Feb. 11 A Homegrown Jazz Special: JIM SALTZMAN QUARTET/AGGREGATE. Talented saxophonist, composer and music educator Jim Saltzman returns with his quartet Aggregate for another collection of first-rate original jazz by various members of the group. Note: Start time 7:00 PM, during WVIA's All That Jazz.

Feb. 17 A Homegrown Music Live Concert with PLUS 3 and VAN WAGNER. WVIA-FM's monthly series of two-hour live concert-broadcasts continues with a first-rate Northeastern Pennsylvania rock quartet, and an acclaimed Danville, PA, singer-songwriter.

Plus 3 is a young band who are steeped in the melodic rock of groups like the Beatles, and other of the 1960s British Invasion, along with more contemporary influences like R.E.M. and alternative rockers. They recently released their debut CD Bad Math, which was co-produced by members of the Badlees. After making their Homegrown Music debut with a studio recording in 2002, they return for a live concert appearance to perform their appealing original music, marked by jangly guitars and great vocal harmonies.

Van Wagner

Van Wagner is a Homegrown Music regular, for his intelligent, often poignant songs about the region and its mining heritage. He was part of a Homegrown Music special on mining songs back in 2001, and he returns to make his first solo concert performance, including some songs from his new CD If Time Could Stand Alone.

As usual, WVIA's listeners are invited to be part of the studio audience at the station's Public Broadcasting Center headquarters for the live broadcast. Free audience seating is available on a first-come-first-served basis by calling 570-655-2808. Note: Start time: 8:00 PM.

Feb. 24 Birdsongs of the Mesozoic. This internationally acclaimed progressive rock/fusion band recently marked their 20th anniversary. Known for their elaborate instrumental suites and virtuosic musicianship, the Boston-based band, with family ties to Northeastern Pennsylvania, made their Homegrown Music debut in late 2001. This week's broadcast is an encore of that remarkable performance.
