Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. Homegrown Music (HGM), presents new performances most Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. June special features include a Homegrown Music jazz concert on the 14th some world-class musicians, along with encores of rare performances by now inactive groups. June 1 Bob Malone. A virtuosic classically trained pianist and
witty songwriter, Bob Malone returns to Homegrown Music for a brand new batch
of songs that combine his lyrical cleverness with great New Orleans-style piano
work.

June 8 Bloomsburg to Bangladesh/Moonlight Masala. This distinctive trio comprises two Homegrown Music veterans of very different styles, Jeremy dePrisco and Tom Dennehy, along with Bangladeshi multi-instrumentalist Bulu Rahman (a graduate student at Bloomsburg University). They combine, and alternate their styles in a distinctive mix incorporating American singer-songwriter style with Eastern influence through Rahman's tabla drums and exotic instrumentation. The result is a fascinating and entertaining cross-cultural fusion.

June 14 A Homegrown Music Concert with ERIC DONEY & THE POCONO JAZZ ALL-STARS and THE FRANK AND JOE SHOW. WVIA's unique monthly series of live concert-broadcasts presents a superb evening of world-class jazz.

Pianist and composer Eric Doney is a long-time fixture on the Pocono Jazz
scene. When he's not playing jazz, he has travelled the world as musical
director for pop star Englebert Humperdinck, and also operates Pacific Street
Records, a label dedicated mostly to the Pocono jazz scene with such artists as
John Coates and Phil Woods. Doney will be joined by his vocalist wife Vicki, a
great rhythm section with drummer Marko Marcinko, plus the One Flight Up Horns,
including trombonist Rick Chamberlain, trumpet man Kenny Brader, tenor saxophonist Tom Hamilton, along with special guests. Doney's
set is always a highlight of the annual Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the
Arts, and he brings the group to Homegrown Music for what promises to be an
energetic performance ranging from jazz to soul to Latin.

The Frank and Joe Show was founded by jazz guitar phenomenon Frank Vignola and
percussionist Joe Ascione. Vignola specializes in the fast, agile acoustic
style of Django Reinhardt, and both Vignola and Ascione were part of the
acclaimed Django Reinhardt New York Festival CD released in 2001. The
Frank & Joe Show expands the group to two acoustic guitars, bass and three
percussionists for music that ranges from blindingly virtuosic treatments of
old swing-era tunes to hepped-up versions of the classical pieces to romantic
ballads. It's Gypsy-styled swing at it best.

June 15 Goodbye Girl Friday. This fine jazz-rock fusion influenced trio released their second CD Silver or Gold in May, and it's already attracting acclaim. This edition of Homegrown Music encores the group's 2003 session which contains some of the songs which would eventually be included in their new CD.
June 22 The Electric Farm, an anthology. Lehigh Valley singer-songwriter-guitarist Joey Mutis III founded this somewhat variable group in the early 1990s, and they put in several appearances on Homegrown Music. Though the group is not active now, this Encore Anthology features a sampling of some of this great band's music taken from several of their HGM sessions.

June 23 A Homegrown Jazz Special: DAVID LIEBMAN AND PHIL MARKOWITZ. Between them, these two world-class jazz musicians from the Poconos have close to 100 albums under their belt. Pianist Markowitz was a member of saxophonist Liebman's "Group" for several years before they went their separate ways. Recently, they reunited for a series of duet recordings at WVIA. Some of the music from these sessions was presented on April. This Homegrown Jazz special presents the conclusion of these remarkable and intimate performances. Note: Start time: 7:00 PM, during WVIA's All That Jazz.

June 29 Earth to Bob. From the Homegrown Music archive comes this 1996 session by a sadly too-short-lived band from Central PA. Earth to Bob released one excellent CD on the Badlees' record label in the mid 1990s, then became inactive not long after their appearance on HGM. Their music features great rootsy instrumentation and superb vocals, along with some lyrics set in our region.
