Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. Special features during August include a Homegrown Music Sampler/Request segment on the 2nd, and a Homegrown Jazz special on the 31th. Note: Homegrown Music will be pre-empted on August 16 for WVIA's coverage of the Billtown Blues Festival. Aug. 2 A Homegrown Music Sampler/Request segment. This week's show is a collaborative effort among series producer and WVIA's listeners. George Graham presents a cross-section of recent HGM performances, and listeners and supporting members are also invited to request music from the series by phoning 570-655-2808. Note: Start time: 8:30 PM.

Aug. 9 Erik Balkey. Southeastern Pennsylvania singer-songwriter Erik Balkey makes his third appearance on the series with an all-new collection of his articulate, sometimes witty songs, performed in a solo setting emphasizing his warm, appealing vocals and pleasing acoustic guitar work.

Aug. 23 Ric DelNero and Chromatica. Talented Bloomsburg jazz-rock fusion guitarist has been appearing on the series going back to the late 1980s. After an extended absence, he returns with a new set of first-rate original instrumental compositions, performed in an electric trio setting.

Aug. 30 Bobby Fingeroth. Listeners to WVIA's Mixed Bag have been hearing songs from Bobby Fingeroth's CD Dilettante in recent months. Now the singer-songwriter makes his Homegrown Music debut with some new original songs that draw on his diverse influences from Dave Matthews to the Beatles.

Aug. 31 A Homegrown Jazz Special with Drew Nugent. Bloomsburg University student Drew Nugent was one of the finalists in the most recent Prairie Home Companion talent contest, in which he impressed the program's national audience with his stride and ragtime-style piano and strong vocals. Now he plays an extended set a lot closer to home for Homegrown Music, featuring a great mix of early jazz styles, with great interpretations of material by Jellyroll Morton, W.C. Handy and others. Note: Start time 7:00 PM, during WVIA's All That Jazz.
