Oct. 11 Dave's True Story, this nationally-acclaimed quartet is known for their witty, jazzy original songs by guitarist Dave Cantor, and the superb vocals of chanteuse Kelly Flint. After a memorable live Homegrown Music Concert last year, they return for a studio session to debut new material, including song not yet released on CD.

Oct. 17 A Homegrown Music Live Concert with CO-OP BOP and MATTHEW FRIES & TRI-FI. After a summer hiatus, WVIA's series of monthly live concert-broadcasts resumes with an evening of jazz from veteran Poconos and Lehigh Valley jazz musicians.

Co-Op Bop features long-time friends Nelson Hill on sax, Alan Gaumer on trumpet, Craig Kastelnik on organ, Tom Kozic on guitar and Gary Rissmiller on drums, all individually acclaimed and leaders of their own groups. They organized this co-operative ensemble to feature compositions by all. The group recently released their eponymous debut album, and were a big hit at the Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the Arts in September. They make their Homegrown Music Concert debut with what promises to be a memorable performances of high-energy bebop influenced jazz.

Matthew Fries

Pianist Matthew Fries is a Northeastern Pennsylvania native who spent several years in New York, and is now based in the Lehigh Valley. His style is both creative and sensitive. His repertoire includes fine original pieces, plus imaginitive treatments of both jazz standards as well as jazz takes on rock tunes. His current trio CD Tri-Fi has been receiving wide acclaim. After a previous solo studio recording for Homegrown Music, Fries and Tri-Fi make their debut live concert as a trio.

As usual, WVIA's members and listeners are invited to attend the concert at the station's Public Broadcasting Center studios. Audience seating is available by free advance reservations on a first-come-first-served basis. Phone 570-655-2808 to place reservations. (Note: Start time 8:00 PM)

Oct. 18 Homegrown Music Anthology Special: From Deep in the Archive. WVIA has been presenting regional artist performances from the station's studios since the station's inception in 1973, with the Homegrown Music series being a weekly feature on the station since 1976. This 90-minute segment features some memorable performances from the 1970s and early 1980s.

Oct. 25 Steve Brosky. Veteran Lehigh Valley singer-songwriter and rock artist Steve Brosky has been on the scene since the 1970s. This 2002 session features a great collection of his often witty songs accompanied by keyboard man Michael Fossa. (Encore)

Oct. 26 A Homegrown Jazz Special with the Id Trio Plus One. Some enjoyable and creative original jazz is performed by a fine young quartet featuring second generation jazz musicians, including saxophonist Adam Niewood (son of Gerry Niewood) and bassist Noah Jarrett (son of Keith Jarrett). Drummer-percussionist Rohin Khemani, and outstanding young guitarist Jesse Lewis round out the group. (Note Start Time: 7:00 PM, during WVIA's All That Jazz).
