Feb. 6 Lazlo A fine roots and country-rock influenced quartet from Western New Jersey and Eastern PA, Lazlo performs outstanding original compositions marked by thoughtful lyrics, great vocal harmonies and first-class musicianship. Their 2004 CD Old Steel Company has been featured on WVIA's Mixed Bag, and this 2005 Homegrown Music session marked the group's debut on the program with a collection of previously unreleased music. Feb. 13 The Fat Cats. This first-rate Northeastern Pennsylvania blues band, led by a police officer, has been together for a few years. In 2005, they made their Homegrown Music debut performing original music that ranges from straight-out electric blues to swing-oriented material. They include some infectious instrumentals in addition to their strong vocals in this encore broadcast.

Feb. 20 Van Wagner. Danville singer-songwriter Van Wagner has been a frequent and always-welcome guest on Homegrown Music. A prolific songwriter, he has released 10 CDs of original songs, but for this HGM, he performs a collection of traditional and outstanding, but little-known contemporary folk-style songs by other songwriters.

Feb. 26 A Homegrown Music Concert with MIKE AGRANOFF and THE JOHN GINTY BAND. WVIA's unique series of monthly live concert-broadcasts this month presents two very different, but equally entertaining performances.

Folksinger and humorist Mike Agranoff is known for his clever reworkings of traditional tunes, and feats like condensing all of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" into a three-minute song. He returns to Homegrown Music for his second appearance which promises more of his enjoyable musical witticisms.

The John Ginty Band

Keyboard man John Ginty is a versatile artist who is usually heard on the Hammond B-3 organ as a busy sideman. He maintains a busy career as a studio musician, having performed on scores of nationally released CDs. He has also been appearing on Homegrown Music for a decade, adding his tasteful work to performances by Neal Casal, Tom Flannery and the Bleeding Hearts. He spent the past few year touring internationally with Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Now he has reconvened his own group, which appeared in a Homegrown Music studio session in 2000. The jam-band-oriented group just released a double live CD, and they return to Homegrown Music for a live performance.

As usual WVIA's listeners are invited to be part of the studio audience at the station's Public Broadcasting Center headquarters. Free audience seating is available by advance reservation. Phone 570-655-2808 to place reservations.

Feb. 27 Dave's True Story. This hip, jazzy group is acclaimed nationally for their clever lyrics and the sultry vocals of chanteuse Kelly Flint. The group has been very prolific, releasing 3 CDs in the last year and a half. They also put in a Homegrown Music recording session in 2005, and this memorable session is given an encore broadcast.
