Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. Homegrown Music (HGM), presents new performances most Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. Special features in October include the first line Homegrown Music Concert from the new WVIA studio theater on the 15th, and two Homegrown Jazz segments on the 10th and the 31st. Oct. 2 Chris Orbach. Born into a family of performers, Chris Orbach has had career in theater and is a successful voiceover actor, but he had always been drawn to his music. In 2005 he released his debut CD Safely Through the Night, which has been featured on WVIA's Mixed Bag program. Singer-songwriter Orbach's music draws on folk, rock and jazz influence. This 2006 Homegrown Music debut by Orbach features a collection of new songs, most of which have not yet been released on CD. He is joined by a fine band, including musicians who appeared on his CD. Oct. 9 Kelly Birtch. A first rate guitarist from the Binghamton, NY area, Ms. Birtch has appeared previously with singer-songwriter Walter Prezelski. She makes her Homegrown Music debut with a collection of original instrumental guitar compositions.

Oct. 10 A Homegrown Jazz special with JOE BATTAGLIA and TERRENCE MCMANUS. Jazz guitarist Joe Battaglia has been a frequent guest on Homegrown Music, performing is numerous musical contexts, from a guitar-piano duo to serving as a key member of the Gerry and Adam Niewood Quintet. This setting features him in an acoustic guitar duo with another creative musician, Terrence McManus. They perform music including jazz adaptations of a classical piece to free improvisations. Oct. 15 A Homegrown Music Concert with GEORGE WESLEY and KELLY FLINT. After 25 years of monthly concerts in WVIA's TV studio, the Homegrown Music concert series moves into the station's beautiful new studio theater.

It's only appropriate that we welcome back to Homegrown Music one an artists who appeared on one of the first editions of the Homegrown Music series over 30 years ago. George Wesley made his debut on the series at a very young age, and he remains one of the region's most popular and busy artists. Known for his infectious reggae and world music influence, he'll be appearing with his current band and will be debuting some brand new compositions.

Kelly Flint is known for her long tenure as the sultry chanteuse with of the nationally acclaimed group Dave's True Story, known for their jazzy music and witty lyrics. With Dave's True Story on a temporary hiatus, Ms. Flint is performing her own brand of "postmodern folk." She'll be joined by her her band, which includes bassist Jeff Eyrich also of Dave's True Story.

Oct. 16 A Homegrown Music Archive Anthology. Homegrown Music has been presenting regional artist performances from the WVIA studios on a weekly basis since 1976. As part of WVIA's annual fall membership campaign, this week's special 90-minute edition of the program will feature memorable performances from the series' huge archive. Note: Start time 8:30 PM.

Oct. 23 Kate and CJ. The long-running Poconos acoustic folk duo of Kate Jordan and CJ McKenna have been regulars on the series over the years. This week's edition of the program features an encore of a 2006 performance of some of their latest original songs.

Oct. 30 Dave Kissinger. Northeast PA singer-songwriter Dave Kissinger brings a mix of folk, blues and roots music to his performances. In this encore of a 2006 solo appearance, Kissinger serves up original music, plus his interpretations of a couple of traditional folk songs.

Oct. 31 A Homegrown Jazz Special with the ANDREW CHESHIRE TRIO. Guitarist Andrew Cheshire is a regular Homegrown Music guest and a versatile jazz instrumentalist and prolific composer. This new segment features a young rhythm section with Joe Michaels on jazz and Rob Smith on drums performing a collection of original music and jazz standards.
