Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. Homegrown Music (HGM), presents new performances most Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. Special features during October include a live concert on the 13th, and an anthology special on the 28th. Homegrown Music will be preempted on October 7 for the presidential debates. Oct. 13 A Live Homegrown Music Concert with THE MARCUS EATON BAND and LIPBONE REDDING. WVIA's unique live monthly radio broadcast concert series resumes after an extensive upgrade of the station's recording control room facilities in the Fortinsky Room digital audio suite, which complements the WVIA studio theater which debuted last year. This month's concert features two musicians remarkable in different ways.

Marcus Eaton is a singer-songwriter and virtuoso guitarist who creates fascinating and musically sophisticated compositions that range from rock to jazzy to flamenco-influenced. His most recent CD The Story of Now won top honors in the 2007 Graham Awards on Mixed Bag, given by program host George Graham, over the more than 500 CDs featured on the program during the year. He performed in a solo setting on Homegrown Music earlier this year. This time he brings along his band to perform in a live concert.

Lipbone Redding

Lipbone Redding gets his nickname from his unique vocal trombone effect he creates. He's a cool, jazzy "hipster" singer-songwriter, whose most recent CD Party on the Fire Escape is getting lots of critical praise. He makes his Homegrown Music debut with his band including bassist Jeff Eyrich from Dave's True Story.

Oct. 14 Kati Mac. This Homegrown Music archive segment from 1998 features a first-rate singer-songwriter whose music has been used for national TV shows, and who has worked as a backing vocalist for Sting and Meat Loaf. Her 2005 epomymous CD has just been re-released, so Homegrown Music goes into the archive to spotlight this enjoyable acoustic session featuring a group with cello and percussion backing.

Oct. 21 Hillbilly Water. A great bluegrass trio from New Jersey who combine traditional and original music with outstanding musicianship. Two of the members of the group also play with the roots-rock jam band The Cosmic American Derelicts, and that eclecticism can be heard in Hillbilly Water's Music. Encore from 2007.

Oct. 28 A Homegrown Music Anthology and Request segment. Homegrown Music producer George Graham presents a special 90-minute edition of the program with highlights from recent performances, as well as an opportunity to request your favorites from the series' extensive archive. This segment will also provide an opportunity for listeners to support this unique Public Radio series. Requests should be made preferably a day in advance, to permit searching the archive, at 570-655-2808.
