Homegrown Music Logo

Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. A special feature in January is the return of the Homegrown Music radio concerts after a eight month hiatus. Further information on Homegrown Music may be obtained via the World Wide Web at http://homegrownmusic.info and http://www.wvia.org/radio/homegrown-music

Jan. 5 B.D. Lenz. Jazz-rock fusion guitarist-composer (and high school math teacher) B. D. Lenz last year released his sixth CD called Hit It and Quit, which featured a guest appearance by bassist Will Lee. B.D. returns to Homegrown Music for new performance with a trio featuring bassist James Rosocha and drummer Josh Orlando.

An outstanding emerging group from New Jersey, the Blaire Reinhard Band has been attracting national attention with their debut recording Steps on the the Ceiling, which has been featured on WVIA's Mixed Bag. The group is something of a family affair with Ms. Reinhard joined by her brother Gray Reinhard (they are grandchildren of Tonight Show bandleader Doc Severinson) her husband Wade Perrin, along with drummer Keith Woodward. Their attractive, melodic roots-rock sound has been attracting critical praise. They make their Homegrown Music debut as part of this this two-hour live concert.

Lorne Clarke, a native of Canada, has been a long-time resident of the Tunkhannock area, and has released two CDs. He was co-creator with Tom Flannery of the Song-a-Week website, and is also the artistic director of the Old Lynne Church concert series. He last appeared on Homegrown Music as part of the Gathering of Singer-Songwriters concert WVIA co-presented last year at the Scranton Cultural Center. He will be performing some new songs and some favorites.

As usual, the WVIA's listeners are invited to attend the concert in WVIA's Sordoni Theater. Phone 570-655-2808 or visit http://wvia.org to place seating reservations.

Carla Ulbrich
Carla Ulbrich at WVIA
Jan. 12 Carla Ulbrich. For over a decade, Carla Ulbrich has been of the funniest singer-songwriters to appear on Homegrown Music. She has written original and satirical songs on everything from medical ills to the "Star Trek" Klingon language. In 2009, she released Live from Outer Space featuring her comedic songs in a live setting. This encore features some of the memorable and hilarious material from her Homegrown Music sessions.

Jan. 19 Brazz Tree. A virtuosic and eclectic duo of Julliard trained violinist Mazz Swift, whose influences run from Celtic to funk, and percussive-style guitarist Brad Hammonds, Brazz Tree creates music that is wide ranging, musically impressive and quite appealing, made more so by Ms. Swift's powerful and often soulful vocals. The group appeared twice at the WVIA Celtic festival in Sunbury, but this segment highlights Brazz Tree's WVIA studio recordings of their original material and a highly original reworking of a classic rock song. Jan. 26 Dave's True Story. This nationally-touring and recording group is known for their jazzy sound, very clever and often-humorous songwriting, and the sultry vocals of Kelly Flint. This encore features their memorable WVIA studio session of 2005.
