Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. Heard Tuesdays at 9:00 PM, Homegrown Music (HGM), presents new performances many weeks. May features another live Homegrown Music concert-broadcast on the 3rd. May 3 A Homegrown Music Live Concert with MICHAEL STEPHANS' SPACIAL EDITION and ANDY SCOTT. WVIA's unique monthly series of two-hour live concert broadcasts features a jazzy evening with a distinctive instrumental group and an acclaimed singer-songwriter.
Michael Stephans is a drummer known for his work on the West Coast with jazz
notables such as Benny Maupin. For the past few years he has been a resident of
the Poconos, and a professor of English at Bloomsburg University (he is a
published poet and author), Stephans has been collaborating with artists like
David Liebman, with whom he recorded a duet album. Spacial Edition is a new
group making their debut. The personnel includes notable jazz violinist Zach
Brock, pianist Jim Ridl and bassist Steve Varner.

Andy Scott is a creative singer-songwriter whose jazzy songs and often witty
lyrics have been winning considerable praise. His CD Don't Tempt Fate
featured a guest appearance by Madeleine Peyroux, and was featured on WVIA's
Mixed Bag weekly album review. Andy Scott will be performing a solo set on
piano and guitar.

May 4 Laura Vecchione. Acoustic singer-songwriter Laura Vecchione has released two well-received CDs, Girl in the Band and Deeper Waters, which were both featured on WVIA's Mixed Bag. This segment features an encore of Ms. Vecchione's Homegrown Music debut from early 2009.

May 11 Joe Rathbone. Singer-songwriter Joe Rathbone returns to Homegrown Music with a new collection of songs that feature his trademark melodic-rock approach and appealing vocals. He has released three CDs since 2002, all gaining national attention. For his third HGM appearance, he is joined by a trio while remaining in an acoustic setting.

May 18 Plus 3. A great Northeastern Pennsylvania rock band, Plus
3 has had an on-and-off existence since they came together in the early 2000s.
They releases a couple of CDs, and also put in an appearance for Homegrown
Music at the Bloomsburg Fair in 2008. This edition of Homegrown Music is an
encore of their first session for the series in 2003.

May 25 Steve Brosky with Jim Meyer. Veteran Allentown-area
singer-songwiter and rock musician Steve Brosky has performed in many contexts
over the years, and released several CDs. Recently he has move toward a more
acoustic sound. This week HGM presents an encore of a 2008 acoustic session
with outstanding guitarist Jim Meyer.
