Dec. 4 Bella Ruse. Last year, to listeners to WVIA's Mixed Bag heard music from this charming duo's CD Kuhzoo (as they spell it). Bella Ruse's instrumentation includes sundries like glockenspeil, toy piano and a typewriter, in addition to grand piano and guitar, and of course, the requisite kazoos. This encore presents their 2011 Homegrown Music debut with their fun original songs that evoke past eras but are fresh and contemporary.

Dec. 11 Jones. From the Homegrown Music archive comes this enjoyable 2002 session by a quartet co-led by Megan Johnson and Kyle Esposito. They were previously part of a jazz-rock fusion group called Fourth House, and they bring a some of that jazzy sensibility to their mostly acoustic, folk-influenced original music.

Dec. 18 Sublunar Minds. This distinctive quartet combines blues, funk and alternative rock influence in their original music, which features a trumpet in a prominent role. Their CD The Last of the Natural Light has been spotlighted on WVIA's Mixed Bag. They make their Homegrown Music debut with some great new original material.
