Jan. 8 Kenny Young and the Eggplants. From the Homegrown Music archive comes this charmingly wacky group known for their hilarious but literate songs. This 2003 session includes some choice songs about a badminton-playing badger/filmmaker, mutant frogs, and a history-changing haircut, packed with plenty of groan-inducing musical puns. Kenny Young and the Eggplants continue to create funny songs to this day, releasing periodic albums that have been finding fans internationally -- or at least leaving them perplexed.

Last year, the regional blues band The Merchants of Groove reunited after a nearly 20-year hiatus, sounding as good as ever. The band continues with their combination of blues standards and original material. Featuring leader/vocalist/guitarist Paul Lyon, and well-known regional guitarist Teddy Young, the band will be serving up some energetic and often-danceable electric blues.

New Jersey-based Honey King made their Homegrown Music debut in October with a wonderfully appealing acoustic session with featuring the memorable vocals of Julia Knitel. The trio will be performing their original music that captures the feel of classic folk songs with a their own 21st Century touch.
