Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM.The series will be preempted on 28th for the State of the Union address. Special features during January include the annual yearly sampler from 2013 on January 7, and a live Homegrown Music concert on the 13th. Jan. 7 The Homegrown Music 2013 Sampler. The annual Homegrown Music year-end anthology is normally heard at the end of the year, but because of preemptions for holiday programming on WVIA-FM, it is being presented at the beginning of 2014. This special 90-minute edition of Homegrown Music presents a cross-section of the memorable recordings and live concerts produced and broadcast during the year just ended. Jan. 13 A Homegrowm Music Concert with THE OAK CREEK BAND and LORNE CLARKE. The Homegrown Music series starts the new year with another in WVIA's unique series of live two-hour concert broadcasts from the station's Sordoni Theater.

The Oak Creek Band is an outstanding group formed around the husband-wife duo of Daniel and Jenna Watters. Originally from Arizona they knew each other since middle school and began singing together at their high school graduation. Their brand of melodic folk-influenced rock has been attracting audiences around the country and their debut CD XI was featured in the Mixed Bag weekly album review series. They make their Homegrown Music debut with their full band.

Lorne Clarke
Lorne Clarke
Canadian-born, Meshoppen, PA, area resident Lorne Clarke is no stranger to Homegrown Music. With a fascinating personal background as a policeman, member of the merchant marine and proud farmer, Clarke brings his big voice and throughtful, often-provocative lyrics to bear in his memorable songs. After a four-year hiatus, he returns to Homegrown Music for a solo performance.

The 8:00 PM concert takes place live before a studio audience. WVIA's members are listeners are invited to attend. Seating is available on a first-come-first-served basis by reservation at wvia.org or by phone at 570-655-2808. (Note: Start time: 8:00 PM).

Jan. 14 Rick Hornyak. Last fall, Pennsylvanian-born and raised Rick Hornyak journeyed back to his native state on tour from Austin, Texas, where he now lives. While here, he and his band had a prolific Homegrown Music recording session of his first-rate roots-rock music. The first part was broadcast in October. This edition of HGM features the rest of the songs from that session.

Eric Frisch

Jan. 21 Eric Frisch and the Updogs. Singer-songriter Eric Frisch released a CD called One Way to Find Out which has been featured on Mixed Bag. It boasts a melodic retro pop approach with astute lyrics. Frisch and four-piece his band make their debut on Homegrown Music with nice collection of original material.
