Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. Homegrown Music was preempted on October 4 for the Vice Presidential debate coverage. A special feature during October is a Homegrown Jazz segment with 3 Divas, a piano trio headed by Diva Orchestra founder Sherrie Maricle, on the 20th. Further information on Homegrown Music may be obtained via the World Wide Web at http://homegrownmusic.info and http://www.wvia.org/radio/local/homegrown-music/

Oct. 11 Che Val. The core of this trio is the husband-wife team of Kenny and Laura Cash. Kenny has been heard on Homegrown Music as a member of Lines West. Laura, when she is not composing and performing music, is a science professor. The group has two musical personalities: the electronic-pop side as highlighted on their CD WaterProof. The other is an acoustic side, which is the focus of their Homegrown Music debut session with a collection of appealing original songs.

Oct. 18 A Homegrown Concert Encore with JORDAN CHASSAN. During the hiatus in the Homegrown Music concert series, producer George Graham is presenting encores of memorable live concerts from the archive. This time, it’s a performance by singer-songwriter Jordan Chassan, a witty lyricist and outstanding blues-influenced finger-picking style guitarist, in a concert from November 2005.

Oct. 19 A Homegrown Jazz Special with 3DIVAS. Sherrie Maricle is the Poconos-based leader of the internationally acclaimed Diva Orchestra, the all-women big band who have performed around the world at venues like The Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center. She also leads Five Play, and the Diva Trio. Always creatively active, Ms. Maricle has founded yet another concurrent group, a trio with pianist Jackie Warren and bassist Amy Shook. 3Divas formed when all three were part of the orchestra for Maurice Hines’ “Tappin’ Through Life” performances. The group makes their recording debut on Homegrown Music with creative arrangements of material from jazz standards to rock tunes. Note: Start time 7:00 PM during WVIA’s All That Jazz.
