Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. A special feature during December is the annual year-end sampler of highlight from the year’s studio sessions and live concerts. Dec. 5 Che-Val. The core of this trio is the husband-wife team of Kenny and Laura Cash. Kenny has been heard on Homegrown Music as a member of Lines West. Laura, when she is not composing and performing music, is a science professor. The group has two musical personalities: the electronic-pop side as highlighted on their CD WaterProof. The other is an acoustic side, which is the focus of this encore of their 2016 Homegrown Music debut session with a collection of appealing original songs |
Dec. 12 Ryan Harris Brown. A singer-songwriter who grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania and graduated from the Berklee College of Music, Ryan Harris Brown has been finding success in Nashville. He released his debut recording in 2013, but then was sidelined by significant medical problems. After having recovered, he resumed his musical career and in 2017 released Stranded in the Present Tense, which featured guest appearance by bluegrass mandolin sensation Sierra Hull. On a return trip to his hometown he made his Homegrown Music debut with a solo performance of his appealing songs. |
Dec. 19 The Empty Pockets. Not exactly Homegrown Northeastern PA, Chicago area quartet the Empty Pockets have been making regular trips to our area, and they are always welcome back with their appealing original music and nice vocal harmonies. In their latest Homegrown Music session, they came with some original holiday music and a funky interpretation of a classic, as well as a batch of fresh but less seasonal songs. They also did part of their session in an acoustic configuration for the first time. |
