Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM and Saturdays at 6 PM on WVIA-HD2. Aug. 3 Rob Larkin. Described as a “cross between Jason Mraz and Mumford & Sons,” Rob Larkin is a singer-songwriter in a roots-rock style. Larkin has worked with bands on both coasts. His L.A. based band Rob Larkin and the Wayward Ones’ CD Dogwood Roots was a featured album on WVIA’s Mixed Bag. This 2015 session features Larkin in a solo setting with his appealing original songs.

Aug. 10 Bedful of Metaphysicians. This highly eclectic musical project founded by Jody Kennedy and the late Charles “Dirt Condominium” Alexander made a number of appearances on Homegrown Music during the 1980s some of which were included in their one and only album, which received national exposure and achieved cult status for its combination of intricate jazz-rock fusion and satire. Their eponymous album has become a collector’s item. This encore features their an anthology of music from their HGM sessions, beyond what appeared on their 1986 LP.

Aug. 17 Empire of the Sea. An instrumental progressive rock quartet from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Empire of the Sea is heard in this 2013 session featuring their original music.

Aug. 24 A Homegrown Music Concert encore with TAUK. One of the top bands on the national jam band scene, this Long-Island based instrumental quartet combines sophisticated jazz-infused compositions with superb musicianship and creative sonic arrangements. This is an encore of the group’s 2014 live Homegrown Music concert given before a studio audience at WVIA.

Aug. 31 Kris Kehr. A versatile musician and singer-songwriter who has played in many styles from acoustic folk to rock and blues, Kehr is featured in this encore of a 2012 acoustic session in which he is heard on guitars and two kinds of mandolins.
